Overview

Ronin products are designed to make reaching new heights safer, easier, and more accessible. Inspired by the spirit of the Ronin, the masterless samurai of feudal Japan who forged their own paths, the Ronin Revolution empowers users with the freedom to move beyond limits, unhindered by gravity. With a mission to develop safer, more innovative solutions, Ronin integrates over 30 years of expertise in rescue hoists and helicopter winches into every product. The result is equipment that enhances safety, reduces climber fatigue, and extends the joy of climbing and exploration over a lifetime, transforming the way you work, play, and live.

Problems

The company had an impressive start, successfully launching through Kickstarter and building strong early momentum. By the time I joined the team, they were about two years into their journey and ready to elevate their brand to the next level. While their logo and basic style guide provided a solid foundation, it was clear they needed more than static visuals to truly capture their audience’s attention. They needed dynamic, compelling imagery that showcased their products in action and told the story of their innovation and performance. One of the most pressing challenges was developing polished, eye-catching marketing materials that reflected the bold spirit of the brand and helped it stand out in a competitive landscape.

Solutions

To meet this challenge, I partnered closely with the head of marketing to make sure we not only captured the product in use but also communicated its energy, purpose, and value. I visited multiple sites and demonstrations to document authentic, real-world moments because I believe great design is not created in isolation. If the assets do not exist, I go out and make them happen myself. Through these photoshoots, we built an extensive library of striking imagery that became the heart of an elevated product catalog. This catalog did more than list products — it brought the brand’s mission to life, featuring powerful action shots from events like the ESPN X Games and stunning locations around the world. Together, these efforts transformed the brand’s presence and created a deeper, more meaningful connection with its audience.
